Seniors of the Week this week are Chloe Lister and Adam Kern, nominated by Mr. Caldwell. He says they are both in his AP European History class and are always prepared and score very high on the tests. Along with very busy extra-curricular schedules, they maintain a high level of productivity in the classroom. Congratulations Chloe and Adam and come down to the office to pick up your prize.

This coming month is February and you all know what that means – full-beard February is getting in full swing. February is just around the corner and we need some of the guys in this high school to prove their manhood. The cost to participate is $3 which will be donated to the People’s Burg Foundation of Indiana, Inc. The winner will receive a new electric razor and a Dick’s gift card. We would really like to see more men participate in this event. If you would like to participate, please meet in the LGI before or after school on Wednesday, February 1st.
Congratulations to the winners of the OpH chili cook off! Anne Poindexter, Claire Poindexter and Allison Gruninger won the general category, India Knapke won the vegetarian category, Jessie Collins won the spicy category and Anna Baker-Olson won the special/unusual ingredient category. They can go to Senora Allesandrini’s room to pick up their prize. The club would like to thank everyone who volunteered or provided food…a lost of money was raised to help schools in Honduras.
Tonight is Fill the Nest for the boys’ basketball games vs. Avon. Make plans to come out and support the Eagles as we take on Avon. The freshmen and JV games start at 6:00 with the varsity at 7:30. Come out and help fill the nest for this big HCC showdown.
Students taking the test today to try to get into English 10 Honors for the 2012-2013 school year are reminded to come straight to the library lab the period in which you have English 9. If you have English during 4th period, please eat 1st lunch and then come to the library lab.
The Zionsville Hockey Club came away with a win and a loss last weekend against league opponent Lawrence. Scoring contributions from the Eagles were Alex Duckworth with 2 assists and Max Warr with 1 goal. Goalie Joe Sakowski had a 2 game total of 42 saves in net for the weekend. The Eagles will face Bloomington on Saturday night at 9:30 p.m. at Carmel Ice Skadium and then will head to Ft. Wayne for two cross over games against Homestead and Bishop Dwenger on Sunday.
College Goal Sunday is just around the corner! On Sunday, February 12, at forty locations in Indiana, students and parents can get free assistance in completing their financial aid application forms! Now in its 23rd year, College Goal Sunday is an event for high school seniors and other Indiana students who qualify for undergraduate admission to a college or technical school in 2012 and need financial aid. The event starts at 2 p.m. local time at each site. Financial aid professionals volunteer at this state-wide event to help families complete their FAFSA’s on time and by the state aid deadline of March 10, 2012. Applications for the cadet teaching class will be available in Room 312 (Mrs. Bender’s room) beginning Friday morning, January 26, 2012. Instructions and information about the class are in the packet. The sign-up sheet for interview times will be located in guidance. Please sign-up for an interview slot at your earliest convenience. Come out and support the girls’ basketball team on Saturday night as we hope to pack the house!! It is senior night for the girls and we are offering free admission to all ZCHS students as long as you show your student ID. In addition, all students that come to the game will receive a free t-shirt. Come out and support the girls as they take on Harrison on senior night 2012!
Peer Facilitating applications are now available in the main office. If you would like to make a difference in a child’s life, this is your chance. Attention Juniors: Prestige Portraits will be here during lunch on Wednesday, February 1st, to find students who would like to be Prestige Promoters for senior portraits. Prestige is the official photographer for the school yearbook and there are several benefits to being a promoter. Stop by their table at lunch on Wednesday to learn more about it.

It is scheduled for Saturday, February 4, from 2 – 5 p.m. at SportsZone. Students – Here is an opportunity for you to earn some volunteer service hours: The Indy Runner’s Club is holding a race on February 12 in Zionsville and they need volunteers to direct runners through the course. Volunteers will report to the Freshman Center Cafeteria on February 12th from 11:30 – 2:30.

Purdue University will be holding an
Engineering Expo which offers prospective engineers the opportunity to explore the world of engineering. The Expo will be held on
March 22, and the cost of registration is $12 per student which includes lunch and a keepsake. The Expo includes three main activities – An Academic Fair, A Quiz Bowl, and an Impromptu Design Competition. Top performers in the Quiz Bowl and Impromptu Design competition will be eligible for a total of $3,000 in scholarships. For more information or to register go to

Senator Dick Lugar is hosting the 11th Annual Dick Lugar Academy Days for all freshmen, sophomores and juniors who may be interested in attending a United States Service Academy. There will be three Academy Days around the state:

The Boone County Cancer Society is offering a $1,000 scholarship Boone County student who is planning to enroll at an accredited school in the field of medical science. Financial need is also considered. Check the scholarship wall in guidance for more information and an application. Applications are due in guidance by March 15.
The Knights of Pythias are also having a Poster/Visual Arts Contest for all high school students grades 9-12 with the theme of “Don’t Be A Bully, Be A Friend.” The deadline for entry is April 30, 2012. For more details on poster requirements, please go to the guidance office scholarship wall.

January Deadlines
Applications are being accepted for the Thomas A. Brady MD Comeback $1000 Scholarship. If you are a student-athlete that has distinguished yourself by overcoming adversity or injury and returned to excel in your sport, you may want to be considered for this award. Please check in the guidance office for an application and turn it in to guidance no later than January 27.
The United Cerebral Palsy Association offers three scholarships for graduating seniors who have cerebral palsy. Applicants are judged on academic excellence, extra-curricular involvement and community service. For more information see the scholarship wall in the guidance office.
The “Sociedad Amigos de Columbia (Friends of Colombia Society) will award 20 scholarships of $1800 each to Hispanic students – Five scholarships will be achievement based and fifteen scholarships will be based on need. Applications may be picked up in the guidance office – applications for the achievement scholarships are due by January 31, 2012, and the scholarships based on need are due by April 20, 2012.
Prom Genie, Inc. is offering book award scholarships for $1500, $1000 and $500 – you must be a female with a 3.0 or higher GPA, have letters of recommendation, have made an application to a 4-year college or university, and must receive some type of financial assistance. The deadline for submission of applications is January 27th. See the scholarship wall in guidance for an application.
The Boone County Solid Waste Management District is offering a new $500 scholarship this year to a student in each of the Boone County high schools. Students must be a Boone County resident with a minimum 3.0 GPA, and implemented or facilitated an environmental program within the community, or plans to major in Environmental Studies in an accredited 2 or 4 year program in the fall of 2012. The Farm Credit Services of Mid-America is offering several scholarships to high school seniors entering college or any student currently enrolled in college. Scholarships are based on academic record, leadership qualities, community involvement and an essay. Applications may be obtained at

The Sallie Mae/Brandon Teacher Scholarship is now accepting applications. The scholarship is for high school seniors who plan to major in education at the college of their choice. The 2012 Shell Oil Company Technical Scholarship Program is now accepting applications. Check the scholarship wall in guidance more information and an application. Applications must be turned in to guidance no later than February 14.
The Student Affairs Committee of the American Society for Materials Indianapolis Chapter announces the availability of three $1,000 scholarships. Indianapolis area seniors who are interested in engineering, especially materials science and engineering, are eligible to apply. Seniors: The Boone County Retired Teachers Association will award one or more $500 Future Teacher Awards to graduating high school seniors living in Boone County who intend to pursue a career in the field of education. They will also award the $1,000 Jeannine Born scholarship to a ZCHS senior who intends to pursue a career in education. Pick up an application form in the guidance office – applications must be postmarked no later than February 29, 2012.

U.S. Bank is offering $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors who will be attending a U.S. Bank Student Loan eligible four-year college or university. Online applications are accepted through March 2012 at usabank.com/scholarship.
The Indiana Association for the Gifted is now accepting applications for the 2012 IAG Scholarship. Please visit

The Annabelle and Maurice Platt Nursing Scholarship is for Boone County seniors who will be earning an Associate of Arts degree in nursing or a four-year baccalaureate degree program in nursing in the state of Indiana. The Indiana Sheriffs’ Association will be awarding forty $500 scholarships to students who are pursuing an education and career in the criminal justice field. Pick up an application on the scholarship wall. The deadline to turn it in to guidance is March 23.
Williams Comfort Air created ExtraordinAIRy Treasures scholarship to honor individuals who showcase extraordinary qualities on a daily basis giving comfort, hope, inspiration, respect, service and love to those around them. They will offer 15 scholarships of $1,000 each. There is no GPA requirement. If you would like to be considered for nomination for one of these scholarships, please fill out a form in guidance. Deadline for students is March 1.
The State Bank of Lizton is announcing their 2012 scholarship program. Applicants must be high school seniors who plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school. The scholarship award is $1,000, renewable each year for an additional 3 years. Check the scholarship wall in guidance for an application – applications must be postmarked no later than March 1.
The Co-Alliance Solutions Scholarship ($1,000) is for students who are children or grandchildren of cooperative members (Midland, IMPACT, LaPorte County Co-Op, Frontier Co-Op and Excel) who are going to study agriculture. For more information or an application, go to their website at

The Leora and Carlton Hutton Trust Scholarships are $2,000 renewable scholarships for Zionsville seniors who will be attending a 4 year college or university or a 2 year business or trade school. For more information and an application see the scholarship wall in guidance. The deadline is March 1.
The Zionsville Alumni Association offers a $1,000 scholarship to a graduating ZCHS senior. The scholarship recognizes a student that has demonstrated an active interest and achievements in leadership, community service, academics and occupational pursuits. Pick up an application on the scholarship and return it by the deadline of March 15.
NorthPark Community Credit Union offers a $1,000 scholarship to a ZCHS senior who has been accepted into a trade, vocational, or 2 or 4-year college or university and who will be studying business, finance or accounting. A minimum 3.0 GPA is required. Pick up an application on the scholarship wall and return it no later than March 29.
Indiana Oil and Gas Association has scholarship funds available to students entering college next fall. Some of the requirements are a GPA of 3.0 or higher, financial need, an interest in the oil and gas industry, be attending an Indiana college in the fall and pursuing a bachelor’s degree with preference given for Earth Sciences, Petroleum, Chemical Engineering, or Geology majors. Pick up an application on the scholarship wall or go to their website at

March 19.
April Deadlines
The Purdue Club of Boone County Scholarship is awarded to a Boone County high school senior who will be attending Purdue University. One award is given to each of the
high schools located in Boone County. The amount of the scholarship is $1,500. Upon
winning the scholarship, the student must provide to the Purdue Club of Boone County a
letter of acceptance to attend Purdue as well as provide a copy of their Purdue student
identification.
The factors in awarding the scholarship are (in no particular order):
Academic Achievement, Activities and School Involvement, Community Involvement, Financial Need, Purdue Commitment
Any interested senior should complete the application in full and provide the required
information.
Scholarship Applications Must Include:
Completed application form, Official transcripts of high school grades.(Optional) A personal statement of not more than 300 words.
All of the above requirements must be met for the application to be considered.
All information should be returned to the Guidance Office of the applicant’s school
by April 6, 2012.

The Zionsville Board of Trustees Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship that is awarded each year to a ZCHS senior. Qualities considered are leadership experience, especially student government, and academic achievement. Pick up an application on the guidance wall and return applications no later than April 9.
The Psi Iota Xi Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship that is awarded to a graduating senior who will be pursuing a 4-year university program. Special consideration may be given to those who pursue studies in the fields of Art, Music, or Speech/Hearing Development. Applications are available on the scholarship wall and are due back to guidance by April 11.
May Deadlines
Seniors – if you participated in the Blood Drive on Monday, and you participate in the Blood Drive in April, you may be eligible for a $400 scholarship. Requirements are: must participate in both blood drives either as a donor or as a student coordinator, must be attending an institution of higher education in Indiana, must be studying science, math, technology or health-related field. The school must submit the name of our recipient by May 1st. If you would like to be considered for this scholarship, please fill out a nomination form in guidance.
